Police close to arrests in beating death

Police said they were awaiting only the approval of the District Attorney's office before charging at least two suspects involved in a large fight Saturday evening that left a 22-year old man dead in a parking lot just outside Citizens Bank Park.
The victim, David Sale of Lansdale, was among a group of men attending a bachelor's party at McFadden's pub, which is attached to Citizens Bank Park.
Police said the group got into an altercation with other patrons at the pub at around 7 p.m., as the Phillies game was in late innings. According to police, McFadden's employees ousted the two groups from the bar and promptly notified both police and Phillies security of the incident.
But the fight continued shortly after in a nearby parking lot, said Police Lt. Frank Vanore.
By the time police reached the scene, Lane was on the ground and unresponsive. He had been hit repeatedly about the head with fists and feet, Vanore said. There are no signs any weapons were used in the attack.
"Several witnesses and potential suspects were taken into custody immediately," Vanore said. "We're waiting to see if charges are going to be approved."
Another suspect may have left the scene, Vanore said. He declined to identify the suspects until charges were formally filed.
Messages left with McFadden's managers were not immediately returned. The Phillies said they would not comment until arrests were made in the case.
